The summer shuffle isn’t yet over, as the Top 3 just got another shakeup that solidified Barbie as our #1 movie. Among other Top 10 movement we got the return of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One which, as expected, came at the expense of Fast X. It’s great to have you back, Tom.
Based on the 3-day and 5-day results for Meg 2: The Trench ($30M) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem ($43M), respectively, it doesn’t appear that our current Top 10 list is in any danger. Those are certainly decent weekend numbers for August, but not when the #10 movie will be at $150M+. There will definitely will be some more shuffling over the coming weeks. Ultimately that won’t make a difference as we seem to have have our winner in sight.
17 days for Barbie and it’s already crossed the $450M plateau. Top Gun: Maverick was “only” at $395M after 17 days. Right now Barbie is at $459M and the #24 movie ALL TIME, just slightly ahead of 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. By the end of next weekend it should climb as high as #19 at $500M+. Yes, we’re going to play the same game as last year in tracking progress for each of the remaining weekends. Stay tuned.
Next Weekend: A couple new Wide releases come out, but none picked by any players. Consider this just a weekend for the holdovers to pad their numbers.
