It was a dreadful week for newcomers as the four Wide releases combined to earn just $28M. There’s no chance any of them will crack the Top 10… but on the flip side the big holdovers all enjoyed better-than-projected weekends. Superman especially enjoyed the lack of competition, as its $236M is now the second largest total of the summer through two weekends. $300M will be a piece of cake, but $400M could be a stretch with what lies ahead.

Holdover News
- #1 Lilo & Stitch is up to #40 on the All Time list at $418M.
- #2 Jurassic World: Rebirth moved up one more spot after an excellent -41.2% third-weekend hold. But give it another couple weeks and it should be right back down to #3.
- #3 How To Train Your Dragon had an even better hold of -31.7%, but its slide from #2 will likely continue downward to #5.
- #4 Superman is at already $236M after just two weekends, and after a 4-spot jump a #2 finish looks realistic.
- #5 M:I – Final Reckoning slipped another spot with its first sub-$1M weekend.
- #6 Thunderbolts just got a little pick-me-up with a surprising +55.4% hold in its 12th weekend… but it still amounted to only $15K. $36K to go to reach $190M.
- #7 F1 finally surpassed #8 FD: Bloodlines, but that will be the extent of its climb as it is still $46M out of the #6 spot.
- #9 Elio just eeked past #10 28 Years Later by $300K, and should be able to stay ahead for good. 28YL is next on the chopping block which will come soon.
