One weekend after seeing the second-best opening of the summer ($92M) we now get the NEW second-best opening ($125M) in Superman. Despite falling slightly short of its weekend projection, as well as being the clear #2 opening in the franchise, its 95% RT Audience Score and ‘A-‘ CinemaScore could very well help it finish better than Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’s $330M total (note that BvS had only a 63% RT Audience Score and ‘B’ CinemaScore leading to a poor final multiplier). With no legitimate threat this upcoming weekend, Superman should see an excellent hold.

Holdover News
- #1 Lilo & Stitch is now up to #43 on the All Time list at $414M.
- #2 How To Train Your Dragon continues to push closer to $250M, but will be overtaken very soon.
- #3 Jurassic World: Rebirth moved up 2 spots with the best 2nd Weekend multiplier of the summer at 2.53x (next closest was 2.01x).
- #4 M:I – Final Reckoning slipped 1 spot despite earning the best 8th Weekend multiplier of the summer at 3.03x (next closest was 2.84x).
- #5 Thunderbolts just can’t hit that $190M milestone as it’s been stuck at $189M for the past 4 weekends. After just a $10K weekend this should be the end.
- #6 FD: Bloodlines managed to hold off #7 F1 for one more weekend, but that’ll be it.
- #9 28 Years Later (65.7M) continues to duel #10 Elio ($63.8M) for the chance at hanging onto the eventual #10 spot, but Elio just took the H2H weekend by $1.25M.
- #10 Elio’s 4th Weekend multiplier of 3.07x was also the best of the summer (next closest was 2.65x). No surprise that Pixar gets great holds, but that horrible $20M opening may be too much to overcome.
Next Weekend: After back-to-back single movie weekends we now get four Wide releases. While no one here selected the horror franchise’s latest I Know What You Did Last Summer, we did get 2 players selecting Smurfs. That early 22% RT Critic Score is definitely cringe-inducing.
