Jurassic World Dominion did slightly less than projected at $145M, and that was clearly due to a strong 3rd weekend for Top Gun 2 ($51M). The $145M opening nearly matched its predecessor Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom ($148M), but was still a far cry from Jurassic World ($208M). With its A- CinemaScore rating, Jurassic WD might just be critic-proof enough to eventually hit $300M, however with major competition around the corner (plus Top Gun 2 still stealing box office cash) the $400M mark looks rather unreachable.
Next Weekend: Buckle up for Pixar’s return to the summer. 4 players have Lightyear listed as their #1, and it’s got some work to do to keep up with a couple movies certain to hit $400M this weekend. Very early reviews have it at 84%, but the Top Critics rating is currently only at 64%. That’s… concerning.
